Ogilvie celebrates £4 million school project
SCOTS building firm Ogilvie Construction has completed a new £4.1 million boarding house for one of the country's top independent schools.
Managing director Phil McEwan took part in a formal handover ceremony at Strathallan School, which is based at Forgandenny near Perth, with headmaster Bruce Thompson.
The new boarding house - Glenbrae House - provides accommodation for 61 girls and six staff. It was designed was Edinburgh architects Oberlanders and built by Stirling-based Ogilvie over a 63 week contract.
Mr McEwan said: "It's a stunning looking building and a great project to be involved with.
"At the heart of the new boarding house is an impressive spiral staircase - built in metal and wood - which leads off to the accommodation.
"The architects have grouped bedrooms into several small residential units rather than one large block - and this provides excellent living areas for the students at Strathallan. We're really pleased with the end result."
Headmaster Bruce Thompson said: "We are delighted with Glenbrae House.
"Oberlanders' design has produced an attractive, modern and spacious building which meets the needs of today's boarders.
"Ogilvie took on the job at short notice and worked exceptionally efficiently and to high standards, delivering a successful outcome very smoothly and ahead of schedule. This was of vital importance since the increasing demand for girls' places meant that we needed more accommodation.
The girls have been delighted with all aspects of their new residence."
Strathallan is one of the top independent schools in Scotland. It was founded in 1913 in the town of Bridge of Allan before moving to its present site in Forgandenny in Perthshire in 1920. It initially only accepted boys as pupils, but began admitting girls from 1979. It now has three girls'
boarding houses, Woodlands, Thornbank and the new Glenbrae block.
