Workers honoured in awards ceremonies

TWO young workers from Stirling-based Ogilvie Construction have been honoured in awards ceremonies.

Derek Currie (20), who lives in Stirling, was given two prizes in a ceremony run by the Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers' Federation (SNIPEF).

He was named the best third year apprentice at Forth Valley College and the David A More Trophy, for achieving best marks out of all the plumbing trainees in Central Scotland, Lothians and the Borders.

Derek is a fourth-year apprentice, working with Ogilvie’s plumbing division – Central Scotland Plumbers.

Meanwhile, Douglas Grieve (21), who lives in Dunfermline, was a joint-runner up in the James Birnie Awards. The awards recognise the skills of “dedicated and talented apprentices” within the construction industry.

Douglas has just finished his apprenticeship and is now working as a joiner with Ogilvie Construction.

In addition to their awards, both men received £150 each in prize money.

Ogilvie Construction managing director Phil McEwan said: “Both Derek and Douglas are a real credit to Ogilvie and we’re delighted at their success in these awards.

“Ogilvie is committed to high standards and these awards reflect our ongoing work to deliver exceptional training and development to staff to deliver the very best for our customers.”

Ogilvie Construction, part of the Ogilvie Group, is one of the leading building firms in Scotland. The privately-owned business has its head office in Stirling, employs more than 400 people and has an annual turnover of around £100 million. It works throughout Scotland and the North of England.
